Energy Fair

STOP PRESS: Printed copies of the Nuclear Subsidies report (PDF, 189 KB) have been sent to all 646 MPs and several other people (December 2009).

At a meeting in London in February 2009, five of us discussed the question: "Can a legal case be made that subsidies for nuclear power should be removed, on the grounds that they create unfair competition for renewables?" In brief, the legal advice that we have received is that the answer to the question is, "yes", a case can certainly be made. Relevant information is presented in the Nuclear Subsidies report and on the Reducing subsidies page.

More generally, greater awareness of the high cost of nuclear power and the subsidies that it enjoys creates a risk for investors -- because some or all of those subsidies may be withdrawn in the future.

This website is about raising awareness of these costs and subsidies and about possible actions to remove distortions in the energy market place that are working against the development of renewable sources of power and conservation of energy.
